British Government May Start Printing £billions Soon!

There seems little point in reducing interest rates any further as the interest rate cuts are proving to be ineffective and the Bank of England base rate cuts are proving to be unpopular with savers and borrowers. The pound is falling against the dollar and the euro. Savers are not being rewarded for saving their money and interest rate cuts are not being passed on in total to mortgage borrowers and businesses.

Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling are asking us to spend more in an effort to keep the economy afloat. Spending money is the last thing on people's minds when they fear for their jobs as the recession starts to bite and their first thought is to save for a rainy day.

The Rumour

The British government may be considering printing more money to boost the economy and to ease the banking freeze on lending to borrowers. Quantitative easing was last used by the Bank of Japan between 2001 and 2006 to fight domestic deflation. This policy did not succeed in stopping deflation and scholars cannot agree whether the actual technique actually worked. In Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been printing money for years with horrific results. Printing money is a remedy of last resort and should only be used in extreme situations as it causes inflation!

Alistair Darling the Chancellor of the Exchequer does not like the term 'Printing Money and he has said that the treasury is looking at other ways to stimulate the economy. The Chancellor has said that if the government was to use quantitative easing it would be the government that would play the active role in how it is used and not the Bank of England. Maybe we should call it quantitative easing as it sounds better than printing Money- that's what the Americans call it and they have by all accounts already started printing 'green backs'. Billions of Dollars!

Governments use quantitative to boost the money supply within the banking system by providing the banks with extra capital. The problem with quantitative easing is how much money should the government print and when should they stop printing money in order to not control inflation. The Government can also control the process of quantitative easing by selling the assets it buys with the newly printed money. Inflation is one of the biggest dangers of printing money or using quantitative easing.

So how would the government implement quantitative easing?

It would involve the Bank of England giving money to the banks in return for assets, like buying government bonds, corporate bonds, dodgy assets and toxic mortgage debts. The government in effects buys the debts, like mortgage or bonds in exchange for money and the government then become liable for the debt or should I say we the taxpayer becomes liable for the debt. This helps to put more money into the banking system. The hope is that the banks would lend this extra money to us so that we will spend more. Quantitative easing is extremely risky and it needs to be practised safely and with caution.

In the words of George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor "printing money is the last resort of a desperate government when all other policies have failed." The government needs to find some other monetary mechanism to fight deflation. We all know that inflation is controlled reasonably well by increasing and decreasing the Bank of England base rate during boom times. If Bank of England and this government use quantitative easing and they lose control of it we could see interest rates of 17% and 18% returning and inflation rising beyond anything we could have imagined. What's the best way to print my art from my pc to ensure high quality? I recently posted a similiar question which people responded with "duh... click print". Vogue magazine praised the line for its "girl-about-town cult status most designers spend years trying to achieve." Jovovich-Hawk had an annual turnover of $21 million.
In the September 2008 issue of Lucky magazine, Jovovich announced that Jovovich-Hawk had ceased operations.
History
20032005
Jovovich-Hawk was established by Jovovich and Hawk in 2003. The two met over 13 years ago as young models. Both women are adamant that the collections were for all ages and sizes, at times using Jovovich's mother as a size model. The collection was inspired by strong women, with a feminine vintage edge. Jovovich explained to the Taipei Times, "For us, it's about strong women or making women feel strong." Jovovich and Hawk managed all aspects of the clothing line from manufacturing to distribution. For one of their first collections, the two had sewn the clothes themselves and before 2005 did not hire others to sew for them.
The line's first collection, which amounted to eight pieces, was impressive enough to catch the eye of John Eshaya, women's creative director for Ron Herman at Fred Segal. The pieces were sold exclusively at its stores; the line almost instantly sold out. The line's second season was equally, if not more successful, with Fred Segal re-ordering its stock mid way through the season.
2006
For the 2006 spring collection, each piece had a name that paid homage to art, literature or film. The dress worn for the CS (California Style) photo shoot was known as the "Carly", after Carly Simon. There was also the "Vivian", a white lace minidress inspired by illustrations of early 20th century artist Henry Darger, and a floral piece named "Sissy", which Jovovich dubbed "a Carrie prom dress" after Sissy Spacek's role in the horror film Carrie.
In April, Jovovich and Hawk launched the Jovovich-Hawk clothing range at Harvey Nichols in London. In November, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and US Vogue nominated Jovovich-Hawk as for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. The award was founded three years ago and underwritten by Vogue, Barneys New York, Coach, Juicy Couture, Kellwood Co., Nordstrom and Theory, with additional support from Gucci. The winner would receive $200,000 as well as a year of industry guidance and support. Jovovich-Hawk was nominated as a finalist, with Doo-Ri Chung taking the top prize.
20072008
In 2007, Jovovich-Hawk participated in FashionWeekLive, a tour produced by IMG Fashion that also included collections by Anne Klein and Badgley Mischka. Jovovich-Hawk also teamed together with Mango to create a limited edition special collection for Spring 2007. The Jovovich-Hawk for MNG collection would feature 10 dresses with a '60s theme.
In Jovovich's film, Resident Evil: Extinction, the costume she wore is a Jovovich-Hawk design. The shorts Alice, her character, wears are a variation on the "Alice Star" Shorts from the Spring 2007 collection. For the Fall 2007 collection, titled Le Petit Mort, the two drew inspiration from "everything from very classic Irving Penn to a Versailles whore in an alley in Paris."
In August 2007, Jovovich-Hawk participated with other designers to create a limited edition T-shirt for "Fashion Gives Back", Glamour's initiative to help benefit the "Malaria No More" organization. For every T-shirt sold, "Malaria No More" would donate bed nets to women in Tanzania. In early September, Jovovich-Hawk participated in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York to showcase their Spring 2008 line.
It was announced in late 2007 that Jovovich and Hawk signed a deal to design a diffusion collection for Target's Go International campaigns, following in the footsteps of Luella, Paul & Joe and Proenza Schouler. In the winter of 2007, Jovovich and Hawk shot a TV commercial for the collection in Los Angeles which was then shown during the New York Mercedes Benz Fall '08 Fashion Week in February 2008. The collection debuted on March 2, 2008.
Jovovich-Hawk ceased operations as of mid-2008.

Vacation in Japan: A Study in Contrasting Cultures

There are two words which come to mind when considering a vacation in Japan: culture and contrasts. The richness and diversity of life in Japan is matched only by its enthusiasm for its own cultural heritage, and whether you stay a week, two weeks or many months, you will always find it astonishingly easy to feel at one and the same time, both very much at home, yet transported to a world that seems uniquely set apart from anywhere else.

Tokyo is one of the better known cities for many people to choose to visit. This is not only because of the 13 million inhabitants who help to create a city to call home, but because of the fact that it has become ever more popularized through Hollywood, with the James Bond film, ‘You Only Live Twice’ being filmed here, as well as ‘My Geisha’ and ‘Lost In Translation’.

The skyline, dominated by the snow peaked mountains in the distance, is a testament to modern architecture, with glass and steel entwined towards the skies; a remarkable feat, but don’t spend too long staring up at the heavens, because on the ground is the real Tokyo, with everything from exquisite sushi bars to trendy shopping experiences. If you enjoy modern, vibrant shopping, then you must make time to see the Harajuku on your Japanese vacation, often referred to as Tokyo’s Champs Elysees.

Or perhaps you might like to leave behind the bustling streets of Tokyo’s city centre and visit the breathtaking Meiji Jingu Shrine. The original shrine was erected in the early twentieth century, created from Japanese cypress and copper; sadly this was destroyed in World War II, but rebuilt in the fifties to create a magnificent modern masterpiece which very much captures the spirit with which the original was constructed. The Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery is based here, and it is well worth spending time to admire the beautiful murals which depict the life of the Emperor Meiji and his wife.

When it comes to dining in and around Tokyo during your vacation in Japan, as with much of Japan, the culture is one dominated by fish; indeed, the very symbol of Tokyo itself is a fish. It is well worth rousing yourself a little earlier than usual and heading towards the Tsukiji Fish Market , known more commonly as the Tokyo Metropolitan Wholesale Market.

The fish here is often so fresh it’s still moving! The sale of fish is frenetic and absorbing, and afterwards it is highly recommended that you enjoy the best of Japanese fish with an exquisite sushi breakfast. If you’ve never tried this, you really don’t know what you’re missing. Japan is full of contrasts, and to enjoy these at their best, it is worth diving in and participating in the traditional customs.

Before you leave Tokyo, another aspect of Japanese culture which you must experience, and which contrasts very much with the throb and hum of the city centre is the Hamarikyu Gardens. No vacation in Japan would be complete without seeing these beautiful gardens, occupying nearly a quarter of a million square meters. They provide a tranquil resting place, through which you can enjoy a pleasant walk, perhaps enjoying a traditional tea ceremony at the teashop in Nakashima, in the centre of the gardens. The flowers here are fabulous, with peony gardens and a plum tree grove just two examples of the areas which appeal, whatever the season. Depending on when you visit, there are a number of displays and exhibitions which demonstrate more of Japanese culture, such as Japanese goshawk hunting.

Many people today associate Kyoto with the international climate agreement (or disagreement!) but this former imperial capital of Japan holds many fascinating opportunities to explore the culture of Japan, and offers many contrasts with the city of Tokyo, despite both names being an anagram of each other. Situated within a beautiful, lush valley, harbored by the mountains of the Tamba highlands, the city of Kyoto offers the chance to experience Japanese customs, such as the art of calligraphy.

Of all written languages in the world, Chinese and Japanese symbols are perhaps the most artistic and decorative. Although Chinese sounds very different from Japanese, they use all of the same letter shapes, and it is well worth experiencing this for yourself. A true master can help anyone to feel the beauty of creating these exquisite shapes. If you’re interested in learning new things, then perhaps rather than taking part in a tea ceremony, you should indulge yourself in learning more about it, and experts in Kyoto will be more than willing to teach you this ancient tradition.

But for a real taste of Japanese culture and tradition during your Japanese vacation, there is one opportunity hidden away in Kyoto which is hard to find, yet well worth it if you know who to ask. The secrets of the Geisha have long been known, yet rarely understood; rarer still is to experience it for yourself, and even the Japanese consider it a great honor.

However, it is possible for westerners to experience the song and dance ceremonies of the Geisha, and nowhere else are the contrasts with modern western cultures more noticeable than amongst the culture and heritage of Japan’s Kyoto region. But be warned, you may well find yourself tearing up your return tickets once you have embraced the culture of a vacation in Japan.

How can I stop iTunes from crashing every two seconds? Here's the situation. I have about eleven gigs of music and I like the iTunes interface. I like seeing all my albums with the album art work. A Guide to the Most Significant Art Movements of the Past 500 Years

Renaissance

The Renaissance (meaning rebirth) was a cultural movement that started in Italy in the fourteenth century, and spread throughout Europe. In art, the style of painting became highly realistic, and attempted to mimic nature as closely as possible.

• What to look for: a rich three-dimensional perspective, human subjects in proportion (usually wearing robes and making grand gestures), and convincing representation of spaces.

Baroque

The term Baroque is often applied to art of the whole of the seventeenth century, and first half of the eighteenth century. Painters expanded on the naturalistic tradition established during the Renaissance, and extended their subjects to include landscapes, and still life. Baroque painters often set their subjects in vast landscapes, or interiors with extended views through doors, windows, or mirrors.

• What to look for: melodramatic spaces, fat cherubs, light rays and fruit bowls.

Rococo

Rococo was a decorative art that originated in France in the early eighteenth century and is marked by elaborate ornamentation, with a profusion of scrolls, foliage, and shell-like forms.

• What to look for: paintings of the aristocracy at play, asymmetry to composition, many small-scale ornamental details, and pastel colours.

Neo-Classicism

During the Neoclassical period (mid eighteenth century), the work of the Greeks and Romans (pre- Renaissance) became popular again, and paintings depicted historical subjects.

• What to look for: paintings with sharp outlines, cool colours, armour, spears and sandals.

Romanticism

Romanticism is assumed to be in opposition to Neoclassicism, and the term used to refer loosely to a trend in art of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It was characterized by the avoidance of classical forms and rules, emphasis on the emotional and spiritual, nostalgia for the grace of past ages, and a fondness for exotic themes.

• What to look for: complex compositions, intense colour, soft outlines and heroic or scantly clad subjects.

Realism (1850 – 1880)

Realism came about in France during the Industrial Revolution. Realist Artists attempted to create objective, accurate, detailed, and unembellished representations of the external world based on the impartial observation of contemporary life. The name Realist refers to their subject matter; humble citizens doing everyday work and previously considered unworthy of representation in high art, rather than mythical heroes, Biblical or classical subjects, and portraits of the rich.

• What to look for: paintings of poor people working.

Pre-Raphaelites (1848)

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood were a group of young English artists who rebelled against the style of the day that was being taught at the Royal Academy and other art schools. They felt the art was dark and muddy in colour, and the subject matter artificial. They admired the work of the artists of the fifteenth century, and their name, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, honoured the depiction of nature in Italian art before "Raphael". Pre-Raphaelite artists believed art should have a serious, moral purpose and often filled their work with symbols suggesting deeper meaning. Most of all, they believed in artistic excellence. To give their paintings a lighter, fresher look, they used bright colours and painted on a white canvas, rather than a brown one. While the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood lasted less than ten years as a group, other artists carried on with the style, which became broader and more muted in colour.

• What to look for: subjects taken from the Bible, Shakespeare and the legend of King Arthur. Paintings exhibit meticulous detail, intense colours, tight handling of paint and complex compositions. Many works are highly realistic.

Impressionism (1860 – 1900)

The Impressionists were a group of French artists discontent with academic teaching, and who shared approaches, and techniques. They abandoned traditional formal compositions in favour of a more casual and less contrived arrangement of objects within a picture. The identifying feature of their work was an attempt to record a scene accurately, but without the use of traditional muted browns, greys, and greens in favour of a lighter, more brilliant palette. They stopped using greys and blacks for shadows, and used short (visible) brush strokes to produce flecks of unblended pure colours. They cast off literary and anecdotal subjects in favour of candid portrayals of ordinary people (doing regular things in everyday locations), landscapes, and architecture. Indeed, they rejected the role of imagination in the creation of works of art. Their name derives from a criticism of the first "impressionistic" work publicly displayed.

• What to look for: paintings look normal from far away, but close up they are a bit of a mess. Also look for the same the same image painted two or more times under different lighting conditions.

Post-Impressionism (1860 – 1905)

Post-Impressionist were not a cohesive movement, and the style of individual artists vary. Post-Impressionism was simultaneously an extension of Impressionism, and a rejection of its concern for the naturalistic depiction of light and colour in favour of an emphasis on abstract qualities or symbolic content. Post-Impressionists continued using vivid colours (e.g. Cézanne painted red grass), thick application of paint, and distinctive and visible brushstrokes.

• What to look for: You see paint first, and the image second.

Abstraction

Abstraction is a generic term for art that does not represent recognizable objects. Abstractionist abandoned art as the imitation of nature in favour of imagery from the imagination and the unconscious. Abstraction comprised a number of different movements, such as Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Dada, Surrealism, and Expressionism.

• Fauvism (1905 to 1907), as a movement, had no concrete theories. The name derives from the judgment of a critic who referred to the artists disparagingly as "les fauves" (wild beasts). Fauvist artwork is characterized by distorted forms, bold and vivid colours, often applied unmixed, and a spontaneity and roughness of execution. Fauvism was short lived, and most practitioners became Cubists.

What to look for: You may say to yourself, "I could do that."

• Cubism (1907 to 1914) retreated from traditional perspective in favour of geometric forms. It attempted to achieve the illusion of three-dimensional forms in a different way by showing many aspects of familiar objects all at once from many vantage points to create new combinations.

What to look for: You may ask yourself, "What is it?"

• Futurism(1909) was an Italian movement with the intention to reject tradition ideals, and celebrate the aesthetic generated by the speed and power of the machine, and the energy and restlessness of modern life. Futurists adopted the Cubist technique of depicting several views of an object simultaneously with fragmented planes, and used rhythmic spatial repetitions of the object's outlines in transit to render movement. Their preferred subjects were machines, and urban crowds. Their palette was more vibrant than the Cubists'.

What to look for: You may ask yourself, "What is it?"

• Dada (1916–1923) was initially a Swiss movement who channelled their revulsion at World War I into an indictment of the values that had brought it about. They were united not by a common style, but a rejection of conventions in art. Through unorthodox techniques, they sought to shock society into self-awareness. The name Dada itself was typical of the movement's anti-rationalism. Various members of the group are credited with selecting the name for its childish and nonsensical connotations.

What to look for: You could be forgiven for not recognising a Dada exhibit as art (e.g. Duchamp "improved" the Mona Lisa by drawing a moustache on her).

• Surrealism (1924) flourished in Europe between World Wars I and II, and grew principally out of the earlier Dada movement, and was similarly a reaction against the "rationalism". It attempted to join fantasy and everyday reality to form a new reality, and drew on the theories of Sigmund Freud, that the unconscious was the source of the imagination. Many different forms of Surrealism developed, including the realistically painted images of Salvador Dalí.

What to look for: something that simultaneously looks real, and unreal.

• Expressionism: was an art movement of the early twentieth century in which traditional adherence to realism and proportion was replaced completely by distorted colour and form to emphasize and express the intense emotion of the artist.

What to look for: dribbling, drippy paint splattered on the canvas.

"What is Your Life Purpose?"

For many entrepreneurs we start a business because we have a passion for delivering a product or service in some way or we want to make a bunch of money (it's nice if you can have both).

Then we go along in our businesses, day by day, working hard (and often long hours) at what we believe is our purpose or our mission (and hopefully we enjoy ourselves along the way).

It wasn't until about 6 or 8 months ago I really 'got it'. I started to understand what this 'life purpose' thing was all about. People I was working with, coaching with or hearing from were starting to mention (or I started to listen) that they were out to fulfill their life's purpose.

So, I inquired for myself. From what I found out, most people figure their life purpose out through a hand analyst. The hand analyst reads in your hands what your life purpose and your life lesson is and either it will be in alignment with what you're already doing or it might give you a clearer picture on what you might want to focus on.

I don't probably explain it as good as a Hand Analyst would (scroll down for a note from the one who helped me), however but this is what happened to me:

A few months back, maybe January of this year, I won a prize at an event to actually get my hands read. I thought, great! But at that time I really didn't understand how deep she would go or what would be the outcome. The session was recorded, what I 'heard' in the session seemed logical to me, it all seemed to relate to what I was doing, I found it interesting and then I tucked the information away.

About 3 months after that, I went to one of my mastermind meetings and a few other friends were discussing their Life Purpose (in a manner of it being a particular phrase of describing them and what they were meant to do). They seems to resonate so much with it and seemed 10 times more focused on their business, products and services offerings that it made me think --- What was my Life Purpose? I had not remembered what the gal said who read my hands.

So, when I returned, I dug out that CD and really listened to it and this time I heard my Life Purpose; it was "Providing healing through by being of service through creative communication (basically to spew my knowledge)".

I was amazed at this because throughout my business I couldn't figure out why I couldn't stop talking or advising people when I was out networking (whether they asked for it or not) or why I would always give so much content and information in my talks, meetings or even in my ezines!

Now I knew, I was meant to spew!

There's so much more to this story (and to yours as well I'm sure) and why it's good to know what your life purpose is so that you can do the very best with it. What I've found too is that your Life Purpose is soooo much bigger than you are. I feel like I am meant to help the world now, I'm thinking much bigger, playing bigger and being bigger than ever before. It's amazing what paths open up for you too when you are finally crystal clear on what you are really meant to do here on this earth.

In fact, I even found out my Life Lesson as well during this process which was that I didn't value myself enough and so when I returned from my mastermind meeting I immediately doubled my rates!
